Parsing the ‘entity that is Wilco’
Most successful bands can claim to have inspired other musicians, but Wilco’s range of influence extends curiously wider. The Toronto restaurant Sky Blue Sky is named after the band’s sixth studio album (2007), its sandwiches after Wilco songs. A bicycle restorer created a custom Wilco-themed bike in the band’s native Chicago; it was raffled off with advance copies of the new album, The Whole Love. And coffee company Intelligentsia invited the band to pick their preference of organic Ethiopian coffee beans, which it sells as “A Wilco Selection.”

“There is this culture of Wilco fandom that’s great,” bassist John Stirratt says. “Some of those people have artisanal tendencies, and it’s pretty awesome that they’re doing stuff like this.”

I need to eat at this restaurant! I’m headed to Toronto right now too, how convenient.
